Two years after it was built, the Bowen Building survived a disastrous fire that destroyed almost all the buildings on this block. The Bamberger Building, constructed soon after the fire in 1888, housed many businesses over the years, including a drug store for almost 70 years.. The facades of both buildings were reconstructed in the 1990s.
