The Bowen Home was built for Ira Bowen II and Mary Burke Bowen. The house originally was a traditional all-white Victorian with a parklike yard that extended to the Powder River. The Bowens were pioneers in Baker County, Ira arriving in 1862 with his parents. Later, he was publisher and editor of Baker City’s “Bedrock Democrat” newspaper for many years. (private home)
