The Baer Home is the Italianate-style “twin” of the Adler Home at the opposite end of the block. In addition to occupying identical houses, the Baer and Adler families were related by marriage and were closely linked for many years. The Baer Home was built in 1882, the Adler in 1889. Samuel Baer, a pioneer merchant in small settlements near Baker City, purchased his home in 1884. Carl Adler, who owned a jewelry and glassware business, purchased his home in 1899.
